Beckett was born in June 2014 and may have suffered from perinatal asphyxia. He has been diagnosed with mixed specific disorders of psychological development, hyperactive disorder combined with cognitive delay and stereotypic movements, and possible autism spectrum disorder.

Beckett is captivated by cars and especially loves going for rides in them. He walks and climbs stairs independently, understands simple instructions from adults, and shows attachment to his foster parents. Beckett infrequently responds to his name, makes limited eye contact, and has some stereotypic behaviors such as rocking. For several months he was able to vocalize simple words such as “granny” or “sister” but this stopped at about 19 months of age and he currently produces sounds only.

After the first month, Beckett adjusted to the day care center he currently attends. He is in near constant motion and does not play purposefully with toys but instead puts them in his mouth or kicks and throws them. He watches his peers and often runs around after the older children but does not interact with them. Beckett works with a psychologist and speech therapist three times per week. He eats with a good appetite, falls asleep quickly, and sleeps well through the night. Beckett enjoys listening to children’s music.

Update Sept 2017: Our in-country representative recently visited Beckett. She shares that he is a very active little boy who reacted excitedly whenever cars passed by, and who spent most of the time running around, clapping his hands, and making sounds. She feels Beckett would benefit greatly from the encouragement and developmental stimulation a forever family could offer.
