“Everything she’s done for me since I was a kid, I just wanted to give it back to her, and show her how much I appreciate her.”

What is the relationship you have with your mother? Obviously, that will be a different answer for everyone; some have a very close relationship and others may have not even met their mother. What would you do for your mother? Most would do anything for their mothers, but how many people have the opportunity to save their mother’s life?

There is news that no one wants to hear: you are sick, you have cancer, or you need some kind of medical transplant. But, for Ingeborg McIntosh it became reality when she needed a kidney transplant.

Ingeborg was a huge proponent of foster care and had over 120 children in her care over 27 years. Jordan was one of her foster children who was placed with her as an infant. According to a news article, Ingeborg stated, “They placed him in my arms and it was love at first sight.”

The adoption process was not easy.   Jordan’s birth mother wanted him to be adopted by an African American or biracial family. However, that family could not be found, and when that was no longer an option, Ingeborg was able to finalize the adoption when Jordan was 4 years old.

Then, over 20 years later, Ingeborg receives the news that no one ever wants to hear: she had polycycstic kidney disease and needed a kidney transplant.

Jordan stated that Ingeborg did so much for him as a baby and child. He related how she fought hard to keep him and adopt him, the love she gave him.  It was his turn to give back. He secretly went to see if he could be a match for his adoptive mother, and he was a perfect match! The surgery was successful, and Jordan stated he was so happy he could do this for her. In the article, Jordan states, “Everything she’s done for me since I was a kid, I just wanted to give it back to her, and show her how much I appreciate her.”
