Meet Michelle!
Michelle is a happy, loving child. She is a leader, a builder, and loves nature. This fun-loving girl is 12 years old, but she is currently about 6 years old intellectually. Michelle has been in foster care for five years and is really looking forward to having a forever home. She is learning new things all the time and is doing well in school. Michelle is inquisitive and likes to stay busy. It is unclear exactly what point she will reach developmentally.
Steve Vorenkamp has been her Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) since she first entered foster care. “We’re hoping that Michelle gets a loving family that understands her needs,” said Vorenkamp. “But I mean for her, it means everything. A loving family? Something that can be relied on at all times? It’s the best of all worlds. You’d get nothing but joy out of this child, and she certainly needs that too.”
There is no financial cost to adopt from foster care in Texas. Also the child is awarded free tuition to any state university when it’s time for college. For further information about Michelle, please call Voices for Children at (979) 822-9700.
Voices for Children has been serving abused and neglected kids in several counties in Texas for over 16 years. They have screened and trained volunteers from the community to work with children assigned to them by the court. The goal of Voices for Children is to improve the lives of children in foster care through volunteer advocacy and to ensure they are placed in safe, permanent homes.
According to the Voices for Children website, “These volunteers bring three critical qualities to their work: they focus on one case at a time; they bring a unique perspective to the court case; and their sole objective is representing the best interests of the child.”
