More than 500,000 pregnancies end in miscarriage each year.  But although miscarriage is common (20% of confirmed pregnancies are miscarried), each miscarriage is painful.  Beyonce talks in this video about her pain and difficulty healing.  Her song, “Heartbeat” was written about her miscarriage experience.

Statistics vary from source to source, but Hope Exchange tells us that approximately 75% of all miscarriages occur in the first trimester.  And although 20% of confirmed pregnancies end in miscarriage, the number is much higher if one calculates loss that occurs before a positive pregnancy test.  When those numbers are included, the estimate is 40% of pregnancies end in miscarriage.  Most miscarriages are single miscarriages.  The good news is that most of the women who have had one miscarriage will have a normal pregnancy the next time.

Beyonce has since become the mother of a little girl, Blue Ivy Carter.
