The DFW Triad Support Group was formed 27 years ago with several purposes. Helping with reunification, understanding closed adoption, and ridding oneself of guilt are just a few of the goals of the group.
The Dallas News visited with group founder, Carol Demuth, a social worker who is passionate about helping others in the adoption triad. “I can feel their pain,” Demuth says of all who participate in the support group. With a sensitivity to the uniqueness of each situation, Carol Demuth is also aware that most adoptees, birth parents and adoptive parents can benefit from coming together to support each other.
Working to truly understand what the other person has gone through and is feeling is paramount to successful reunification, according to Demuth. “It’s fine to have hopes, but the more you can learn about the other side […] the more you’re going to be able to understand.”
