A 14-year-old girl placed in the foster care of Robert Gonzales in 2011 was abused and treated as a possession. Gonzales physically and sexually abused her — punching her, burning her with cigarettes, using her to create child pornography. Additionally, he forced her to have sex with strangers.
Gonzales arranged for the hotel rooms, then sold the services of his foster daughter to men for money and drugs. Gonzales gave the girl drugs, and she became addicted.
In October of 2014, Gonzales was found guilty. Sentencing took place January 7th.
Colorado’s Channel 9 News reported that at Wednesday’s sentencing Gonzales was given a 112-year to life sentence.
According to the Denver Westword, one of the jurors finds this sentence excessive. In fact, Thomas White was also convicted of prostituting a minor and was sentenced the same week, but for less than half the time as Gonzales. Regardless, the teen and others who may have been in Gonzales’ sight are now safe from his behaviors.
