- Case #Martina
Martina was born prematurely in October 2015. She was the product of a twin pregnancy conceived via in vitro fertilization. She has been diagnosed with holoprosencephaly, microcephaly, cleft lip and palate, epilepsy (controlled via medication), and global developmental delays.
Martina lifts her head briefly on her own, fixes her gaze on objects for a short time, and reacts to loud noises. She cannot hold toys in her hands and does not appear to understand what is being said to her. She sleeps calmly and is fed via bottle, though with difficulty due to her unrepaired cleft. Martina is fully dependent on her caregivers.
