“Sometimes adoption is the best thing for our child at the time,” says Doug, who married Katelyn, a birth mom. Doug and Katelyn share an open adoption with Katelyn’s birth son and his family. They cherish the times they spend together and are grateful for that family and their part in Doug & Katelyn’s lives.
Doug was surprised when, on their first date, Katelyn told him she was a birth mom. But that doesn’t mean he was disappointed. In fact, “placing a child for adoption isn’t something to be ashamed of, it’s something to be proud of,” says Doug. He also echoes Katelyn’s feelings that “Adoption is love.”
