DeJohn is a youth who wants to be loved unconditionally. He loves to be the center of attention and is very fun to be around. DeJohn has a great smile that lights up the room. He can be shy and soft-spoken upon meeting new people, but will warm up quickly and become talkative. DeJohn is a pleasant and cooperative youth who aims to please. He likes to be well groomed and dressed nicely. DeJohn enjoys playing video games and running, as well as playing basketball and football outside. He does well at school, but benefits from reminders to stay on task and complete his schoolwork. DeJohn excels in his favorite subject, math. He has participated in extracurricular activities and has enjoyed playing football and basketball on the school teams when possible. He is interested in trying out for the track team. DeJohn does best in an individual setting with others and is practicing accepting help with direction. He has thought of becoming a phlebotomist or a mechanical engineer so he can be successful and provide for his future family.
DeJohn and De'Andre share an exciting and tight knit big-little brother relationship. DeJohn is a good big brother who looks out for De'Andre and keeps him on track with his behavior and attention. De'Andre looks up to DeJohn and enjoys spending time with him. The pair share a close sibling relationship, which is reinforced by being together. They enjoy time together and time apart, due to the differences in their ages. DeJohn enjoys his time alone to do his own thing while De'Andre enjoys spending time with his peers. They continue to work on their big-little brother dynamic but they both have a positive effect on the other, which is noticeable to everyone around them.
DeJohn needs a positive role model to help reinforce appropriate behaviors and interactions with others. His family will provide an environment where he can develop a sense of safety and stability. He needs a family who will provide healthy yet strong boundaries, and a nurturing and loving home with age appropriate discipline and consistent consequences. DeJohn's family will provide him a sense of normalcy. His family will be reliable in seeking any needed resources for DeJohn. The family must be extremely patient, but very firm in their approach. DeJohn will benefit from one family member at home for consistent supervision. The family should have a strong support system and be knowledgeable of available resources. It would be ideal if the family would be open to maintaining sibling contact with older and younger siblings who have been adopted. DeJohn enjoys being able to spend time with his siblings.
